Guildford Lido

From 10.30am on 19th April 2008 until 6.30pm on 1st September 2008, at Guildford Lido, Stoke Road, Guildford, GU1 1HB

The Lido's 75th Anniversary (1933 ~ 2008) season begins on Saturday 19 April at 10.30am.

Set in three acres of landscaped gardens, retaining much of their 1930's charm, the lido has a heated 50 metre pool and restored changing facilities.

The swimming pool is open until September, from 10.30am - 6.30pm for public swimming.

Due to the remedial works taking place at Spectrum this summer, swimmers at the Lido can take advantage of a period of extended opening hours during the closure of Spectrum's Competition pool. Visit the website for the revised programme.

Due to school galas the Lido will be opening later on the following dates:

Adult-only lane swim is available Tuesdays and Thursdays 7.00 - 8.40pm.

Living Memory: Guildford 1962 - 1973

From 11.00am on 21st June 2008 until 5.00pm on 25th August 2008, at Guildford Museum, Castle Arch, Guildford, GU1 3SX

An Exhibition showing the changing face of Guildford in the 1960s incorporating an oral history project recording people's memories from this important decade of change. The display includes the events, the shops, the clothes and the culture.

Peter Monkman: Changing Faces

From 10.00am on 15th July 2008 until 5.00pm on 1st August 2008, at Lewis Elton Gallery, University of Surrey

Part of the Guildford Summer Festival 2008.

The exhibtion includes over 70 pieces of work spanning the last 8 years which deal with the portraiture genre.

Peter Monkman has exhibited widely, including the BP Portrait Prize and the Jerwood Drawing Prize touring exhibition in 2008.

This exhibition is a Watts Gallery touring show.

Sculpture at Loseley

From 11.00am on 16th July 2008 until 5.00pm on 10th August 2008, at Walled Garden, Loseley Park, Guildford

Organised by the Surrey Sculpture Society, an exhibition of over 60 pieces of work will be on display at Loseley Park. The sculptors come from all over the South East and there will be a complete range of styles and materials used.

Work for sale and occasional demonstrations too.

As You Like It

From 7.30pm on 17th July 2008 until 7.30pm on 26th July 2008, at University of Surrey Lake, Guildford

What better to way to make the most of a summer's evening then to enjoy an outdoor performance of Shakespeare's 'As You Like It' by the award winning Guildford Shakespeare Company?

When Rosalind is banished by her usurping uncle who has also exiled her father, the rightful Duke, she seeks sanctuary in the Forest of Arden. Here, disguised as boy, not only does she meet the man of her dreams but also finds herself match-maker to four wedding couples!

Summer Farmers' Market

26th July 2008, between 10.30am and 3.30pm, at Guildford High street

Come to a special Summer Festival Market to celebrate the British summer with wonderful fresh produce.

The Guildford farmers' market has over 60 stalls where you can buy high quality products, including seasonal fruit and vegetables, meat, cheese, fish, eggs, baked goods, preserves, wine, beer, cider, plants and crafts. All are locally produced in the area.

Summer Film Festival

The Electric Theatre's Summer Film Festival brings an exciting and eclectic range of films to Guildford this year. From Israel to France and from the USA to Romania, the films are from all around the world and include 'Lust, Caution', 'Earth' and 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly'.

Film Season 2008

From 6.00pm on 3rd August 2008 until 12.00am on 27th August 2008, at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford

Your opportunity to see a film that you missed the first time around including a whole host of well-known and award winning films. The season opens with Michael Clayton, continues with others such as Joy Division and The Kite Runner and closes with Female Agents.

Regiment Band concert

30th August 2008, at 7.30pm, at Guildford Cathedral

The Regiment Band of the Grenadier Guards will end their UK tour with a varied and entertaining concert. This will include a newly commissioned piece of music.

All proceeds from the event will be going to the Colonel's Fund.

Tickets for the concert are priced at £16 and £12.
